OUR ORIGINS:
Our very name has given rise to our mission from its inception. “Theo” is an Ancient Greek word, and “Ubique” is a Latin word. Our name originates in the two cultures that are the cornerstones of Western society. “Theo” means “God.” And “Ubique” means “everywhere.” Therefore, our name means “God is everywhere.” For us, just as for the Greeks and Romans, the theatre is a sanctuary for the communal telling of stories that represent the dynamic, life-giving energy of the universe. This energy is most tangibly felt when minimalism helps us to focus on a story’s honesty, simplicity, and awe, thus bringing us to the story’s deeper meaning.

OUR INSPIRATION:
Theo Ubique Theatre Company’s history took a bold step in 2004 when it began to experiment with, and champion, the theatrical form we call “Cabaret Theatre.” In this medium, the fourth wall is broken, and the performers engage the audience in a conversation with the theatrical presentation by being immediately present to the story. This experiment resulted in series of highly successful, and critically acclaimed Revue shows in the No Exit Café. Theo Ubique welcomed audiences into a space where they were engaged from the moment they walked into the theatre, into an evening in which theatre would be experienced WITH them, not just FOR them. From the first glass of wine that accompanied a meal appropriate to the story, through intermission’s customary desert selection, and to the final bow, our audiences have discovered that they were part of an environment, which was itself the show.
The work was so successful that Theo Ubique was soon required to expand the seating capacity of the No Exit Café, and began to experiment with full length, book musicals done as Cabaret Theatre. The combination proved to be an inspiring re-visitation and re-invention of important theatrical works. We realized that we were reinventing how actors and audiences mutually interact in an environment, or maybe we were just returning to theatre’s roots.
Either way, we had found our inspiration. |
OUR MISSION:
Our mission is to engage actors and audiences into an intimate and honest conversation with great theatrical works.
Our Objectives:
We want to make live theatrical performance personal again.
We want to tell the big stories of our society through substance, not spectacle.
We want our audiences to walk away, not talk about what they heard or saw, but what they were a part of. |
